ASHBANK SPORT HORSES 2009
About Us
Ashbank Sports Horses is a small broodmare only stud based in the heart of Oxfordshire. The mares used in our breeding program are all from approved stock - the majority of them being from KWPN or Trakehner bloodlines. The focus of our breeding program is to produce quality sports horses with the talent, temperament and trainability for owners to produce and compete at the top levels of sport.
In 2009 the Champion KWPN Dresdsage foal at the Midlands Keuring was an Ashbank foal.
The small size of the enterprise means that broodmares are carefully chosen with a particular emphasis placed on temperament. Other criteria, such as proven bloodlines, expressive paces and correct conformation are also utilised during broodmare selection to ensure that we are only using the most suitable mares to achieve our aims.
The Ashbank prefix was first used in 1997 when we bred the first Ashbank foal, a spotted sportshorse by the Champion stallion Myriad Beesknees. Since then, the breeding direction has been constantly evolving, and today our broodmare herd consists mainly of Trakehner and KWPN mares from proven sport lines and exceptional mare families.
We do not stand our own stallion, instead choosing to utilise some of the many approved warmblood and sporthorse stallions available to breeders - both in the UK and from on the continent. We feel that by not standing a stallion, there is more freedom in our program and that this choice facilitates the progression towards the fulfilment of our breeding goals.
